Five Wedding Makeup Tips

While some brides-to-be hire a professional makeup artist to make them look absolutely stunning for their big day, other brides would much rather do their own makeup. I have been a professional makeup artist for a few years now  and have picked up a couple tricks along the way. Here are my top five tips you need to consider before purchasing makeup for your wedding day.

1) Your Skin Type
Knowing your skin type is very important when choosing a base for your face. This will determine how well the foundation will perform, last and look. So if your skin is dry, oily or a combination of both, you want to choose something that will help to alleviate those issues.  For dry skin use oil based liquid or cream foundation to hydrate the skin why keeping the dryness at bay. For oilier skin, use a water based liquid foundation, cream to powder or  pressed/loose powder foundation.
2) Trends
Although there are a lot of bridal trends out there you have to stay true to yourself and how you would like to express your look. Your makeup look should reflect your personality and style.

3) The Weather
With a summer wedding most people find that their skin gets a little more oily or moist and that`s because, depending on your location, there is more moisture in the air and with the heat of the summer we tend to sweat. This is where water proof makeup comes in handy - especially if there are gonna be a few tears at the alter!

Water proof/water resistant eye makeup such as mascara and gel liner is ideal for wedding makeup. This will ensure that alfter all the tears of joy your makeup will stay put and look great. Also, once your makeup is complete you want to set it with a setting spray specifically designed to keep your makeup water proof and sweat resistant to keep your makeup lasting for hours.

4) Kiss the groom
Don`t share your makeup with the groom.  First choose a lip liner that will compliment your lip color. Use it to fill in your entire lip.  This will help to keep the color from bleeding and moving all around. After applying your lipstick you then want to set it with a lipstick sealer to ensure a smudge proof, stay-put application.

5)Stay Fresh
Yes, even though you will be using water proof makeup, makeup doesn`t last forever. So take a mini touch up kit with you to use as needed. I recommend a translucent powder that can easily be dusted over the face with a large fluffy brush to refresh your look and keep shine at bay. Blotting sheets are great as well, simply take a blotting sheet and blot where access oil is visable.  A few other things to have in your touch up kit is your lip color and blush. Touching up your blush before photos will ensure you have a nice, fresh and glowing complexion. It will also ensure that you don`t look pale and washed out in your photos.
